The Opportunity
This newly created position reports to the Assistant Athletics Director/Assistant Dean of Student-Athlete Success & Well-Being, in close collaboration with Academic Advising, and is responsible for providing proactive and comprehensive, tutoring and academic support for identified student-athletes in both individual and group settings. The Student-Athlete Success Coach is a member of the DASH team and will play a pivotal role in supporting the holistic development of student-athletes throughout their Stanford career.


About DASH:
The DASH team is composed of professional advisors who specialize in Academic Advising and Student-Athlete Success & Well-Being.

    • DASH: Academic Advising: Undergraduate Advising Directors - UADs for Student-Athletes, are full-time, professional staff reporting to the Office of Academic Advising who partner closely with colleagues across campus to provide a comprehensive network of support that promotes a student's academic success and furthers their intellectual goals.
    • DASH: Student-Athlete Success and Well-Being advisors are full-time, professional staff reporting to DAPER who specialize in holistic advising, experiential education, personal and professional development, community building, and leadership opportunities in support of the well-being and success of Stanford student-athletes.


Primary Responsibilities:

    • Meet individually with a specific cohort of undergraduate student-athletes to help them tackle common academic challenges and develop skills and knowledge for academic success.
    • Help develop the DASH peer mentor program by assisting with curriculum development and DASH peer mentor training.
    • Design and facilitate academic skills workshops and programs to meet student needs, drawing from current learning sciences research. These include workshops tailored to specific courses and campus programs on topics such as: time management, procrastination, academic motivation, exam preparation, effective study strategies, reading strategies, goal setting, resilience, growth mindset, and more.
    • Exercise discretion when sensitive information is disclosed by students and ensure the protection of student data and communication.
    • Provide day-to-day oversight of the AARC Tutoring Program.
    • Recruit, hire, supervise content specific tutors for student-athletes.
    • Manage all phases of the recruitment and selection process for tutors, including writing job descriptions, advertising positions, reviewing applications, interviewing, selection, and hiring.
    • Manage appointment software, verifying tutor information, coordinating with payroll, and troubleshooting problems with tutors and students
    • Design, set up and administer and review tutor feedback surveys; collect and analyze program utilization data.
    • Coordinate updates to tutoring web pages, including program information and tutoring schedules.
    • Monitor weekly tutoring utilization to ensure students are using tutoring appropriately.
    • Respond to general inquiries about tutoring from student-athletes and staff.
    • Serve as a member of conference affiliated tutor working groups.
    • Work closely with campus partners (i.e., the Center for Teaching and Learning) on best practices in academic and tutoring support.
    • Ensure that tutoring and other student learning programs are accessible and inclusive for first-generation students, low-income students, underrepresented students of color, and other students historically marginalized in higher education
    • Monitor tutoring program expenses and assist in the preparation of annual budget proposals
    • Flexibility in completing any other assigned duties

Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience
    • Experience with a program that supports student success, such as a tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or advising program

Preferred Experience:

    • Experience supervising student staff
    • Experience working with undergraduate student-athletes
    • Knowledge and familiarity with intercollegiate athletics, especially NCAA rules and regulations

    • Relevant subject matter knowledge. Relevant knowledge of program operations in an academic setting, including work with financial systems, data reporting, outreach, and/or student staff recruitment and hiring.
    • Ability to supervise student staff
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences including student-athletes, coaches, administration and University staff
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and customer service skills
    • Nuanced understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
    • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva
    • Relevant computer systems/technology experience including a solid understanding of social media
    • Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.


Working Conditions:

    • Estimated travel: 5%
    • This position is based on the Stanford main campus
    • This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days of onsite work per week and more as needed to meet student and departmental needs.
    • Able to work on evenings and weekends, as needed

Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,560 to $71,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
