The role:
We are seeking a talented and creative full-time Graphic Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual communication, a keen eye for design, and experience in creating engaging visuals and content for multiple platforms. You will be responsible for translating complex data and analysis into accessible visualizations and content for a diverse audience.
This is an entry-level, fully remote position that can be performed from any location with a stable internet connection. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined in collaboration with your supervisor.
Specific roles and responsibilities:
As the Graphic Designer, your tasks will include:
Graphic design: Create custom designs for social media, infographics, newsletters, and promotional materials. Update existing infographic templates regularly. Collaborate with the Web Manager to enhance our web infrastructure and ensure brand consistency across all content. Assist with data visualization for research and analysis teams, creating custom templates for collaborative projects.
Publications: Assist with the layout and design of analysis and rapid response outputs. Develop new, visually appealing templates for reports, guides, and policies. Update existing templates with new information weekly.
Brand management, marketing, and outreach: Ensure adherence to branding guidelines for all creative and written content. Support the Corporate Licensing team with the design and production of materials for client and donor outreach.
Management of the Digital Library: Organize the repository of digital assets and provide photos or materials to team members as needed.
Administrative support: Provide support to the Head of Communications and Communications Coordinator, and assist other departments as needed.
Skills and competencies:
To excel in this role, you should have:
A Bachelor's degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, or a related field, or a degree in the social sciences or humanities with self-taught graphic design skills.
Experience with data and quantitative/qualitative research is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. Proficiency in other languages such as French, Arabic, Portuguese, and Spanish is a plus.
3-5 years of experience with Adobe Suite programs, including InDesign, Illustrator, Premier, Acrobat, and Photoshop.
Experience with visual storytelling, data visualizations, motion graphics, and designing high-quality materials for web-based communications.
Proficiency in creating digital assets for social media platforms.
Attention to detail to ensure high-quality work.
Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Flourish, moqups, or QGIS is an advantage.
Experience in creating animations or illustrations for educational content is beneficial.
Skills in audiovisual production and editing are a plus.
Experience with brand management and content adaptation for different audiences.
Previous work with nonprofits or in the research sector, particularly in areas such as peacebuilding, conflict, demonstrations, human rights, and foreign affairs, is an advantage.
Experience in sourcing digital assets such as photography, video clips, and motion graphics.
Ability to multitask, collaborate across departments, and work independently.
Initiative to present new ideas that enhance our data and analysis.
Strong organizational and planning skills, with a high attention to detail.
Ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively on project status.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new platforms and tools.
Enthusiasm for strategic communications and a drive to experiment with new designs while adhering to brand guidelines.
