Job Description
HATCI (Hyundai America Technical Center) is looking for an intermediate-/advanced-level UX design researcher who loves to listen to users, discover what they need, and draw insights to design innovative features for the upcoming future that will impact the automobile user experience with the vehicles of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis.
This innovative UX design researcher is expected to sketch out the novel mobility/vehicle features, from user research and UX/UI trend analysis into specific development requirements for near future vehicle design implementation.
You design to study people. To do so, you are expected to have a solid understanding of the creative process with design methodologies for innovation. With a user-centered design approach, you will plan, conduct, facilitate, and manage user research. You will support the design process by delivering insights from users' behaviors about their expectations and unspoken needs around the automobile context. You will generate design ideas and test the ideas with people to learn how to improve user experience. You will demonstrate research-through-design in a fast-paced agile environment for the new mobility transition period involving electric vehicles, autonomous driving, software-defined-vehicle, and innovative transportation solutions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities, Including But Not Limited To - Design research for the future vehicle.
- Creative approach to capture the voice of customers and user’s unspoken needs.
- Interpret the fear/pain point of the current design into innovative design insights.
- Demonstration of the design ideas by flow, interface design, interactive prototype, and/or multimedia/ animation/ short films.
- Test and co-create novel feature/application/service design opportunities with potential users.
General Requirements - Team player. You’ll support a team culture of empathy and understanding of user needs & desires while balancing business decisions.
- Innovative design thinker. You will move fast with listening to users, ideating for innovation, prototyping to test, and designing the communication materials of the findings through the iterative UX design process and in Agile practice.
- Excellent Communicator. As a UX researcher, you excel in communication about research data and design ideas for internal and external collaborators. Well-organized; excellent verbal, written, AND visual communication.
Occasional domestic/overseas travel is possible for user research & tech shows up to 20% of the time.

Compensation Qualifications And Requirements Passion for automobile UX for the future.Be open-minded and multicultural.Master’s degree in Interaction/Experience Design.MUST: 8+ years of working experience of UX design.MUST: 3+ years of working experience in the automobile industry.Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving recordCandidates applying for positions with Hyundai and KIA must be legally authorized to work in the United States. - Experience of requirement analysis for the external/interior design, software (app) development, and working knowledge with software/front-end-web-development.
- At least three works on innovative UX design & research that demonstrate your direct involvement in user research, ideation, prototyping, and testing in the iterative UX design process.
- The ability to be flexible and inventive, using analytic and creative problem-solving approaches to design research and user testing for future product.
- Advanced level of knowledge in UX trends including Data Art, adaptive UI, multimodal interface, MaaS, SDV, and more.
- Intermediate to advanced multimedia/ visual authoring/ prototyping skills
- PLUS: History of patent that demonstrates design innovation.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, visual, and presentation skills are a must.
- Tools (inclusive but not exclusive)
- Basic documentation: MS Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Basic web programming: CSS framework (Bootstrap), JavaScript
- Basic visualization & prototyping: Figma, ProtoPie, Adobe CC, AfterEffects, Cinema4D, Unity, Blender
