Job Description

Control Risks eLearning team is looking for a creative and ambitious Instructional Design (ID) Consultant who can design high-quality, instructionally sound, and engaging learning content. The ID Consultant will be the primary designer of client-facing learning solutions, with a strong focus on creating learning experiences that equip learners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively satisfy the desired learning outcomes.

The ID Consultant will be partnering with cross-functional teams of Control Risks experts, internal trainers, and external clients to design and develop transformative online and blended learning solutions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Control Risks subject matter experts (SMEs) in a variety of specialty fields (e.g., kidnap, compliance, cyber, crisis response) to create complex, nuanced, immersive content.
  • Conduct training needs assessments with external clients and Control Risks SMEs to define all required knowledge and performance requirements.
  • Analyze complex, technical content and write concise, logically sequenced, engaging, and instructionally sound outlines, scripts, and detailed storyboards (utilizing both technical and creative writing skills).
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design theories when designing any instructional materials (web-based, instructor-led, virtually led, etc.).
  • Design creative and engaging learning activities and compelling course content that are aligned with all established learning outcomes and facilitates effective knowledge transfer and skill attainment for learners.
  • Gauge learner retention through the development of knowledge check and assessment items that are aligned with the desired learning outcomes for any given training solution.
  • Partner with the SMEs to conduct training solutions reviews – which includes accuracy of content, adherence to the Control Risks visual branding, quality assurance checks, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams on the creation of visually engaging and brand compliant deliverables that are effective from a learner and cost perspective.
  • Build collaborative, positive working relationships with cross functional teams to ensure successful project completion
  • Support internal and external teams in identifying innovative methods to deliver learning content, seeking insights from the development team to ensure deliverables are feasible.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement by self-reviewing content during project development cycles and identifying opportunities for improving products for future engagements.
  • Balance workload in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple project efforts simultaneously.
  • Develop trusted relationships with internal and external clients, and always exhibit a strong level of professionalism.

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of learning methodologies and instructional design processes.
  • Ability to create highly engaging, blended learning solutions that align to desired learning outcomes.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, and work closely with internal team members, external clients, and developers to create learning solutions that enable efficient development of content.
  • Awareness of key risks and issues during learning design, and ability to raise them immediately through the correct channels and offer options to mitigate risks, where possible, to minimise delays to projects.
  • Experience working with internal and external subject matter experts to design effective learning.
  • A strong attention to detail and ability to provide and receive constructive feedback to ensure a high-quality product.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft O365 products including MS Teams.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard software and languages (Adobe Suite, Articulate, GoAnimate, Lectora, Camtasia, etc.).
  • Awareness of SCORM standards, and standard content integrations of learning management systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in regards to client relationships.
  • Possess baseline knowledge of training and development fundamentals with the aptitude to successfully design learning solutions that meet established learning outcomes for topics ranging from introductory to advanced.
  • Working knowledge of andragogy principles and familiarity with best practice learning trends and industry standards preferred.
  • Additional language at professional proficiency preferred

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, in education, instructional design, training and development, human resource development, or related field.
  • Certifications or coursework in adult learning or Instructional Design.
  • Skilled at negotiating resolution to differences of opinion.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team‐based or remote work environment
  • Self-motivated, dynamic personality with desire and ability to adapt quickly to new information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in regards to client relationships.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
