Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Paralegal to join our team in supporting low-income individuals through our Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and other legal service programs. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated to make a difference in the lives of those who need assistance in navigating legal challenges. The Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic is committed to helping individuals with incomes at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines contest adverse tax decisions, and you'll play a key role in providing this crucial support.
What You'll Do
Client Support and Case Management: Interview clients to confirm eligibility, review case facts, and identify legal issues. Update client records in our database for accurate reporting.
Service Planning and Follow-Up: Develop and track personalized service plans with clients, reassessing and adjusting as needed to meet their evolving needs.
Legal Guidance: Provide clients with tailored legal advice, applying relevant laws to help them navigate their legal challenges and work toward solutions.
Collaboration and Case Strategy: Participate in team meetings to discuss case acceptance and strategies for client services.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain records, including statistical data and documentation, to meet the requirements of various grants.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training to stay current with Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements and ensure high-quality representation.
Outreach and Communication: Conduct community outreach, assist with client intakes, and maintain open, respectful communication with clients through various channels.
Administrative Support: Draft correspondence, prepare written materials, and provide litigation support as needed.
Other Duties: Be ready to take on additional tasks as they arise to support our clients and team.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications: A paralegal degree or certification is required, along with knowledge of the legal system. Experience with low-income or underserved populations is a plus.
Cultural Sensitivity: Familiarity with Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is highly desirable, as well as the ability to connect with and understand our clients' diverse backgrounds.
Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Adaptability and Organization: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and thrive in high-pressure situations with tight deadlines.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with case management systems. Comfort with online collaboration tools and video conferencing is also a plus.
Experience: At least three years of experience as a Paralegal is preferred, but we welcome applications from exceptionally qualified entry-level candidates who are eager to grow.

Physical and Travel Requirements
This role is primarily office-based, with occasional lifting of supplies up to 20 pounds.
Some travel throughout Florida may be required to serve clients across the state.
