As part of our commitment to improving the lives of the residents we serve, the Unit Manager plays a key role in delivering high-quality care to nursing home residents. This position involves overseeing nursing care and health education for residents on an assigned unit, ensuring exceptional care throughout all hours of operation.
Key Responsibilities:

Review and implement nursing procedures and systems to ensure consistency and quality.
Assess and evaluate care delivery systems to facilitate the best possible outcomes for residents.
Monitor staff performance and provide guidance to ensure competency in providing high-quality care.
Utilize a systematic approach to provide personalized nursing care, focusing on the specific needs of each resident.
Conduct nursing assessments to evaluate the health status of residents.
Contribute to resident assessments (MDS/CAA's) and assist in developing care plans tailored to individual needs.
Implement, monitor, and adjust nursing care plans to address residents' health needs and responses.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best care and outcomes for residents.
Ensure that medications and treatments are administered correctly, while understanding their effects and addressing concerns about inaccuracies.
Maintain accurate documentation of residents' symptoms, responses, and progress.
Promote a safe and secure environment for residents and staff.
Plan and provide health education and counseling based on residents' individual health needs.
Work closely with residents, healthcare team members, and family members to ensure comprehensive care.
Utilize community resources and healthcare agencies to support ongoing care.
Take on nursing assignments appropriate for your experience and training and seek additional guidance when necessary.
Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making, ensuring adherence to policies and best practices.
Stay informed about safety, fire, emergency procedures, and security protocols.
Participate in the RAI process as needed.
Provide support to charge nurses to ensure effective unit supervision.
Be available for on-call duties as needed.
Apply company policies in decision-making and ensure they are followed appropriately.
Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education programs to stay current in nursing practices and maintain certifications.
Ensure confidentiality of residents' information in line with HIPAA guidelines.
Follow Infection Control procedures to safeguard the health and safety of residents and staff.
Uphold residents' rights, treating them with dignity and respect, and ensuring their freedom to make informed decisions.
Support residents' autonomy and prevent the use of physical restraints in line with professional standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead and manage nursing staff, including CNAs and Nurses, within the unit.
Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of staff.
Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, addressing performance issues and fostering professional development.
Oversee payroll, timecards, and staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage.
Handle employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations as needed.
Qualifications:
Current state nursing license (LPN or RN).
Certification in a nursing specialty is a plus.
CPR certification required.
Previous management or supervisory experience in long-term or geriatric care is preferred.
For LPNs, management of Registered Nurses will not be required.
Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing care in long-term settings.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios) to practical care situations.
Skilled in problem-solving, data analysis, and drawing valid conclusions.
Proven ability to manage, motivate, and support a team of healthcare professionals.
Basic computer proficiency required.
